Topic: Making Perth more climate resilient - towards a water sensitive city

Outline:

The Water Corporation’s Water Forever project has outlined a clear approach to helping Perth become more climate resilient through three major platforms:

Despite the significant water savings achieved over the past 8 years, Perth still remains one of the highest water using cities in the world. The Water Corporation has recently released its draft plan Water Forever: Directions for Our Water Future, to achieve the goal of making Perth more climate resilient.

A major part of increasing our climate resilience is the consideration of how water sensitive urban design can contribute to further reductions in water use, increase water recycling and the development of new sources.

Louisa Kinnear and James Tay have been part of a project looking at innovative water sensitive urban design projects across Europe in order to develop their vision of Perth as a “water sensitive city”- a city that uses and manages water in a climate appropriate way.

Louisa and James will present on what is happening in London, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain and identify what Perth can learn from the integration of land planning, water and energy management in cities across Europe. They will then propose a vision for Perth as a “water sensitive city” and make recommendations on how Perth can learn from international case studies to progress towards climate resilience.
