The Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy of Western Australia (APPWA) is pleased to introduce the 25th Anniversary International Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Conference that will be held on 6–7 November 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Perth Hotel, Western Australia.

This Conference will be of interest to people who practice psychoanalytic psychotherapy, counsellors, teachers, mental health practitioners, students and training organisations, plus anyone who wants to further understand the human condition.

It will take a fresh look at issues that are long-standing in our communities. These issues will also be expanded upon with the Pre Conference Workshops which will be only open to conference delegates. Some of these topics include:

Intimacy, Autonomy and Isolation
The Psychotherapy Relationship
Attachment through the life-span
Relationships
Power and Empowerment: between patient and therapist
Fatherhood and Motherhood
Trauma
Narcissism
Affect Theory
Sexuality and Intimacy.

The Conference will also offer the opportunity to consolidate and expand professional networks and to develop a common ground for future psychoanalytic work across national and cultural boundaries.

The rich and multi-layered cultural history of Western Australia makes Perth the ideal setting for bringing together those associated with this field and developing psychoanalytic ways of thinking and working.
